a/an + singular countable nouns                 

"There's a cat in the chair"

some/any + plural noun and uncountable noun

 some (with positive sentences)    

"There are some cats"  (cats = plural noun)

"There is some wine in the bottle"  (wine = uncountable noun)

 

any (questions and negatives)

"Are there any children there?"
